We found out that #2 was supposed to march which his school band in the St Patrick's Day parade. We're just going to put this out there... the band teacher does not do a great job of communicating with the parents. We get a text message the night before something. No always convenient since we schedule life in advanced as much as we can (not as much as in my single days, but we still try.) We knew about the parade and had asked details earlier in the week, but didn't get the answers we needed. The band teacher did give two options: 1) meet at the school 2 hours before the parade or 2) meet at the parade route an hour before. An extra hour of sleep on a Saturday morning? Yes please. #2 message his teacher he'd meet at the parade, we got there, his teacher did not bring his drums. So we watched the parade.
There goes the band without him...
But we were kind of OK with his not marching. There was one item on our calendar for months, attending the Kids' Symphony Concert with the Utah Symphony. I've posted about taking my godkids and other friend's kids in past years. It was pretty amazing to be able to bring my own this year. The kids got to participate in the instrument petting zoo.
Check this out Grandpa (my dad plays the sax)
Then we went into the concert
The night before, we decided to surprise the kids with a little more activity. So, we packed a lunch and we had a picnic on the grass at the Triad Center downtown.
The Triad Center has a few statues placed around. Of course, tradition must be carried on - so we posed with the statues, a la: Bud Clark and Life Imitating (or exposing yourself to) Art.
The surprise: tickets to Beauty and the Beast opening weekend. They'd been asking for a while. We hadn't planned on opening weekend. But since we were already out for the day... why not add to it. So we went to the movie.
And we went to bed early that night.
